Madrid Palace, the official residence of the Spanish Royal Family

Madrid Palace is one of the most popular palaces in the world and like Buckingham
Palace; it is designated for the country’s Royal Family. It is also one of the oldest palaces
since its construction was started in the year 1735. Over the course of time, renovation
work was carried out by successive emperors. Today, it is mostly used for state
ceremonies since the Spanish Royal Family does not live here anymore instead they
have opted to stay at the Palace of Zarzuela. The palace has a huge building covering an
area of 135 thousand Sq. meters having 3,418 rooms.
This palace has a unique place in Spanish history and with novel art displays,
construction designs and decorations. It has also become a major tourist attraction in
the world as the visitors can take a tour of the palace. Close to the Madrid Palace is the
Alcatraz Palace, which is also significant in Spanish history. We were in Spain last year
visiting different states of the European Union. We were staying in Barcelona while we
were planning to visit the capital city as well. We reached here by road and booked a
hotel in the commercial area.

Exploring the City of Madrid

Madrid is a historic city with countless tourists attractions spread all over the city. We
first decided to explore the city before visiting Madrid Palace. We visited the Museo
Nacional Del Prado which is among the best European art collections. We also visited
the Parque del Buen Retiro which is a beautiful park with fountains and a lake. We went
boating here enjoying the beautiful weather of the city. Next, we went to the Madrid
Palace after which we spent a few hours in the Plaza Mayor in the city.

Exploring the Madrid Palace

We went to the Madrid Palace after spending a few hours in the city. It is a beautiful
building, which impresses the person the first time. Outside the palace, there are Plaza de la Armeria and Plaza de Oriente. There are also two gardens here named Campo del
Moro and Sabatini Gardens. We spent some time outside before we went to explore the
interior of the building. Inside there are King’s apartments, Queen’s apartments,
banqueting hall, Royal Chapel, apartments of Infante Luis and the Crown Room. There is
also a library, pharmacy, and armory here. We spent few hours exploring the interior of
the palace and took memorable pictures here.
